MODEL / CHANNEL HYDRAULICS
Channel hydraulics¶
Two fuel velocity zones, with a higher velocity in the inner region to enhance heat removal from the hotter central region of the core.
Channel velocities and pressure losses¶
| Channel region | Velocity | Pressure loss |
|---|---|---|
| Inner channels | 1.70 m s−1 | 14.3 kPa |
| Outer channels | 1.03 m s−1 | 6.0 kPa |
| Control rod channels | 1.74 m s−1 | 34 kPa |
Flow configuration¶
The fuel flows through graphite channels from the bottom of the reactor to the top. The inner and outer regions differ only in fuel velocity. The total mass flow rate specified in the main design parameters is 2300 kg s−1.
The two types of fuel channels are shown in orange in the top-view geometry.
